Activism & Artivism
Ella is a political and climate Activist, or more accurately an Artivist, creating theatre and film with an impact.
She is a spoken word artist, a performance artist at climate demonstrations, and an organiser of Peace Child International’s Model Citizens’ Assemblies.
Spoken Word.
Ella’s most recent spoken word was about the Food Package Scandal in the UK. She has been commissioned to write a piece for a short film about social media, AI and the dangers of Fake News, in collaboration with choreographer, Jessie Brett. She is currently writing a comedy sketch about the threats of Climate Change, and the lack of control our generation feels in sight of it. This is in line with the Model Citizens’ Assemblies she is leading for Peace Child International, in the hope to spread awareness on the benefits of deliberative democracy.
Performance Art.
Ella has performed as a Red Rebel at a number of the XR demonstrations including Glastonbury 2019 at The Park Stage and Stone Circle, the Royal Opera House BP demonstration in Trafalgar Square, and a number of the October 2019 rebellion demonstrations. Ella has also joined other activist groups, including Global Justice Now and Peace Child International.
She also played ‘Youth Climate Activist’ in a scripted comedy sketch for the UN75 Anniversary Concert in October 2020.
Political Theatre.
Ella did her MA thesis on Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed, in which she used Forum Theatre to look at ways in which we can identify and challenge misogyny in Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. Ella has since developed workshops using Boal’s teachings with groups in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Workshop Facilitator.
Ella has successfully delivered over 30 workshops in Acting, Acting and Climate Change and Community Activism. She has most recently delivered a 4 week face-to-face workshop series looking at Lungs by Duncan Macmillan, exploring ways we can use the text to create impactful theatre about the Climate Crisis. During the UN75 Anniversary Festival, Ella also facilitated a workshop on community activism in the face of the Climate Crisis.
UN Speaker.
Ella did a speech at the UN75 Anniversary conference in September 2020. She spoke on the importance of participatory democracy, citizens assemblies and the idea of a digital UN to increase intergenerational and cross-cultural dialogue in the climate conversation.
Model Citizens Assemblies.
Ella then started developing, organising and hosting a series of Model Citizens Assemblies with Peace Child International. The most recent IMCA in April asked the question ‘What must we seek at the Glasgow Climate Summit?’ with Expert Witnesses from around the world including Elizabeth May, Paul Ekins, and representatives of Global Justice now.
